To install this philosophy, we will need to be good leaders, teachers and organizers.

As players get older, we should try to install the concepts of “Respect”, “Responsibility”, and “Commitment”. Skill development is always very important at every age. One must go over the basic skills of hockey repeatedly to build a strong foundation for future seasons. These basic skills would include skating (forward, backward, turning, stopping, etc.), puck control, passing and shooting. As players progress in their minor hockey career, they should gradually be introduced to tactical systems that utilize their sound hockey skills with young developing minds.

Besides developing on-ice skills, players need to develop their interpersonal skills, as they relate to their teammates, officials, coaches, parents, and other teams. They must learn to be a “team” player and realize the benefits, so they may be successful in hockey, other sports, and in every day life. The player should develop an “understanding of” and the “displaying of” sportsmanship in hockey and in other sports.

As we coach, we want to make each practice or game a fun, memorable moment, in hopes of creating a passion for the sport of hockey.
